The Carnival in Venice, magnificent and fascinating event that enchants every year thousand of people with his charm and mystery.
The word Carnival is used for the first time in a document of the Doge Falier in 1094 where it speaks of public fun, therefore, from this, it can be understood the ancient origin of the event, born by the necessity of the Repubblica Serenissima to give the people the possibility of amusing themselves at least for a specific period of the year.
During the Carnival it was allowed to the people to deride the aristocracy, but above all it created the occasion for the social classes to level out, in fact, disguising itself with particular customs and masks, the people could become entirely anonymous, even changing identity and behaviors: all of this, on the other hand, had a negative side, as really during the Carnival, accomplice the anonymity, any type of crime could be easily committed.
The Carnival, a contagious euphoria that invades the calli and squeezes into every angle to revive, to recall, to fall through once the mysteries and the atmospheres of past in which the whole city was abducted from her “transgression”, from the desire to disguise and to give outlet to the joy.
For about ten days among the calli of this marvelous city you live a continuous theatrical representation of joy and playfulness well represented and manifested by the numerous masks that hasten to celebrate this magic world.
The Carnival in Venice 2010 will see protagonist the fire as dominant element of the format 6 senses x 6 sestrieris, the last one organized by Marco Balich.

To start as always the event will be the flight of the Colombina, tradition that seems to have had beginning with the walk of a Turkish on a rope extended from the Torre dell’Orologio of St. Mark up to the Palazzo Ducale where made free to the doge.
