The first exhibitions dedicated to architecture promoted by the Venice Biennale dates back to the '70s, when, as part of Visual Arts, several exhibitions were staged in Salt warehouses and rafts. Since 1980, with the inauguration of the first true International Architecture Exhibition, the field becomes completely autonomous. With the succession of editions, the Biennale of Architecture comes to occupy a leading role among the international exhibitions in the industry almost to equal, for media coverage and prestige, the Biennale of Contemporary Art. The last year has seen for the first time the direction of a woman, the Japanese architect Kazuyo Sejima. The Main Show and Exhibition of the 54 participating countries have joined the many side events offered by organizations and international institutions and set up throughout the city. According to the general lines of Kazuyo Sejima "The Biennial is to be everything and anything, fundamentally inclusive, in permanent dialogue with people who make it, and with the viewer. The buildings, the atmosphere they create and the way they are conceived, can be the central point of departure for the next International Architecture Exhibition.
