It is with pleasure that we want to invite you on September 15th 2013, at 11:00 a clock for a matinee to commemorate the 100 anniversary of Frank Kafka’s visit at the Hotel Gabreilli in Venice.
On 13 August 1912 Kafka at Brod’ home met Felice Bauer, a young woman with whom he began an unhappy love affair, accompanied by an intense exchange of letters.
It was exactly 100 years ago on September 15th,1913 that Franz Kafka wrote from the Hotel Gabrielli Sandwirth one of the 200 letters addressed to this woman. Still the same letter paper of Hotel Gabrielli Sanwirth is in use in our hotel. In this letters Kafka opens up his heart and his most secret feelings. He struggles between the desire to marry her, which would allow him to fulfill his duties as a jew and a son, a nudge of his life, and the belief that this union will be his downfall and an obstacle to his freedom to write. The meeting with Felice free the creative power of Kafka…..
We are delighted that on this anniversary the Kafka Expert Klaus Wagenbach. Wagenbach publishing, will talk at the Hotel Gabrielli to us about Kafka’s journey to Venice. Ulrich Tukur, wonderful actor already living in Venice
